Mission Statement
Our mission is to increase the capacity to build simple decent homes in partnership with people in need in the State of Michigan.
Governed by the board of directors, HFHM provides the following services to affiliates:
- Educational, training and networking opportunities, consultation on board development and other board related issues
- Liaison to the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA), Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB) and the Michigan Public Service Commission Low Income Energy Efficiency Program
- Fundraising efforts for housing production
- Creation of statewide public awareness of the need for decent affordable housing and how Habitat can meet that need
- A prison partnership, Prison Build Program, that provides panelized house walls (funded by a grant from MSHDA), kitchen and bath cabinets, garden sheds, and horticulture
- AmeriCorps and VISTA programs
- Computers for Families - a program to provide a refurbished computer to every new Habitat homeowner funded by the Michigan Association of Realtors (MAR)
- Information and planning help for communities taking on the challenge of Vision 2020 to eliminate sub-standard housing in their area by the year 2020
- HFHM was proud to host the 2005 JCWP. Michigan affiliates completed 236 homes as part of the project.
Affiliates, local chapters of Habitat for Humanity International, build and rehabilitate decent, affordable housing in partnership with families.
