Affiliate Leadership Councils
Three Affiliate Leadership Councils meet in Michigan. These regional councils each meet six times a year and are intended for executive directors, board presidents and others who are in affiliate leadership. These councils seek information and provide feedback to Habitat for Humanity of Michigan (HFHM) through the council’s five seats on the HFHM board of directors (note: SMALC consists of three areas and as such has three reps to HFHM board).

Affiliate Topic Councils
Michigan has six Topic Councils organized. These councils concentrate on specific aspects of affiliate operations and are marketed to staff and volunteers whose roles involve those topics.The premise of these affiliate-lead groups is to convene to network with others doing similar work, to solicit, review and prioritize best practices on their topic, and to serve as advisors to affiliate HFHM board of director representatives.

Habitat Michigan's Role
HFHM serves a supportive role to these affiliate councils by:
- Financially supporting these councils by providing HFHM staff support, underwriting council conference calls and underwriting webinars costs for council trainings
- Maintaining an accurate and updated email list of members and potential members
- Assisting to identify training topics and/or presenters
- Distribution of the affiliate-developed agenda one week prior to meeting
- Publicizing the date of next meeting via our newsletter and website
- Having at least one staff attend meetings to provide an update of HFHM topics
- Maintaining a section on HFHM website for councils. Information can include calendars, agendas, minutes or other pertinent council information.
