From Menominee River to Detroit and Benton Harbor, some 650 supporters of Habitat for Humanity of Michigan (HFHM) came together March 29 at Kellogg Center in East Lansing to honor its most dedicated and hard-working supporters. Gov. Rick Snyder attended as keynote speaker and commended Habitat Michigan as being "a role model for reinventing Michigan." Habitat Michigan recognizes and salutes its 2011 award winners:
Affiliate of the Year: Menominee River Habitat for Humanity
Public Official of the Year: Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville
Sponsor of the Year: State Farm Insurance Companies
Bernice R. Bensen Service Award: Robert Filka
Volunteers of the Year: 27 individuals were recognized by their affiliates for outstanding service
During the banquet, HFHM announced its participation in the 2011 initiative “Legislators Building Communities”, a statewide collaborative event engaging legislators, affordable housing and community development groups and volunteers in service projects throughout Michigan this summer. In closing, HFHM President Sandy Pearson thanked this year’s sponsors and attendees, saying “We are extremely grateful for the support of our sponsors who support our local affiliates through training, grant coordination, loan servicing, volunteering, advocacy and fundraising.” Pearson also thanked Gov. Snyder for his support of Habitat Michigan.
