MSHDA Down Payment Assistance (DPA)

Since 1993 the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) has been working with Habitat for Humanity of Michigan (HFHM) to assist in the production of affordable housing and support the opportunity of homeownership for people with the lowest incomes of our state with a willingness to partner. This government nonprofit partnership grew into an umbrella award to the HFHM to provide a down payment assistance grant to qualifying families and affiliates across the state on an annual basis.

Down Payment Assistance funds (DPA) are applied to reduce the selling price of the house to the eligible family by the total amount of the award minus closing costs and prepaids that are paid by the grant.  This reduction in sale price takes place during the closing of the house sale and is evidenced in the closing documents.  Funding of the grant request is not guaranteed.  MSHDA and HUD reserve the right to modify grant requirements.
