New, Safe Home for Lansing Family

By Julie Burtch, Habitat for Humanity of Lansing

When Daphne Workman brought her three sons to their new home, they could not contain their excitement.  For the first time, the boys will have a safe neighborhood to play in, a yard where they can run around and a comfortable home where they can build a life.

All of this was made possible for the Workman family when they partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Lansing.  Through the three months of construction, Daphne worked beside dedicated volunteers to build the home of her dreams.  Her boys call the house “perfect.”

Before joining with Habitat for Humanity, the Workman family lived in an inadequate rental home.  The house was drafty and cold and located in a neighborhood where Daphne did not feel comfortable raising her boys.

Now, Daphne can rest easy knowing that her sons will grow-up under a safe and healthy roof.  The family is moving in the fall of 2009, just in time to spend the holiday season in their new home.
