Programs Overview


Habitat for Humanity of Michigan offers the following programs and services to Michigan's 76 affiliates:

  • $12,000 Down Payment Assistance (DPA) Grants from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) for ENERGY STAR ® Certified Homes
  • Reimbursement of homeowner financial counseling services via MSHDA
  • State lead on the ReBuild Michigan Capital Campaign, a partnership with HFHI and all Michigan Affiliates to raise new and additional funds in support of the Habitat mission
  • Construction products produced by Michigan Department of Corrections
    • House wall panels, sheds, cabinets, horticulture materials, countertops
  • Sustainable Building program supporting Habitat affiliate construction and energy efficiency
    • Annual statewide green building conference
    • Design assistance and house plans
    • General construction guidance for new construction and rehabs
    • Assistance achieving ENERGY STAR ® and green building certification
    • Safety training including lead, asbestos, radon and mold issues
  • Support for affiliates initiating Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative (NRI)-type projects in fulfillment of their housing mission (new, rehab, critical repair, weatherization, ramp, A Brush With Kindness)
  • Spartan Store and other employee volunteer and/or donation programs
  • Federal Home Loan Bank grant guidance
  • AmeriCorps members via Michigan Community Service Commission serving in:
    • Community Outreach
    • Volunteer Coordination and Recruitment
    • Family Support
    • Construction Liaison
    • Neighborhood Development
  • Michigan Regional Distribution Center, a statewide warehouse in support of Michigan based ReStores

    • Coordination and development of toll free 888-654-DONATE for ReStore contacts and donations
  • Support of the statewide network of Habitat Restores
  • Organization and support of statewide affordable housing advocacy events

  • Annual two-day Affiliates In Motion (AIM) training conference in the Fall
  • Seminars conducted over the World Wide Web (Webinars) on various topics including New Habitat Leader Orientation and affiliate requested topics
  • Support of the three bi-monthly affiliate leadership councils (Upper Peninsula, Northern Michigan, Southern)
  • Support of the six topic councils (Fund Development, Family Selection & Support, ReStores, Construction,
  • Volunteer Coordination, Faith Relations) with staff as well as underwriting conference call and Webinar services
  • Development and maintenance of Affiliate Directory
  • Annual Awards Program and Banquet
  • Biweekly statewide e-newsletter distributed to Michigan affiliates and legislators
  • Website with features that include:
    • Affiliate job posting and search service
    • Affiliate contact database and Google Map locator
    • Affiliate online ordering service for Prison Build Program products
    • Affiliate library for regulatory forms and housing documents
  • Occasional distribution of resources from corporations wanting impact beyond a single affiliate
  • Public relations and marketing consultation for affiliates
  • Technical assistance to affiliates as needed to address affiliate challenges or facilitate growth
  • Advocacy activity allowing increased Awareness and Legislative Issues
  • Home of the Habitat Michigan Fund offering loan originating and servicing to Affiliates
  • MSHDA Approved Lender to help Michigan’s Hardest-Hit Homeowners
