The AmeriCorps*VISTA program builds capacity in non-profit organizations and communities to help bring individuals and communities out of poverty. The VISTA program began at Habitat Michigan in 2003.
VISTA members work to promote literacy, improve health services, create businesses, increase housing opportunities, or bridge the digital divide. This program provides indirect service to affiliates as members develop policies and procedures, infrastructure and systems, recruitment and fundraising plans, or community resources.

Special Events Coordinator
In 2008, Habitat’s 21 VISTA members worked in the following areas:
10 supporting development of ReStores
4 creating fundraising opportunities
5 strengthening community partnerships in Vision 2020 neighborhoods
2 designing volunteer recruitment strategies
