Habitat Michigan hosts Advocacy Day event for Habitat for Humanity affiliates

Lansing, MI – Legislators got the opportunity to connect with their local Habitat for Humanity affiliate office today as part of Habitat for Humanity of Michigan’s Legislators Building Hope advocacy event. The event sought to help the local nonprofit leaders to connect with their representatives to talk about their work within their districts to help low-income individuals and families secure safe, healthy, and affordable housing.

“Advocacy is a major part of our work as a support organization for Habitat for Humanity offices statewide,” said Sandy Pearson, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Michigan. “We work to educate Legislators on the impacts policies can have on the families that come to Habitat for help securing stable, affordable housing. As a bipartisan organization, we have a unique position to join forces across the political aisle to ensure everyone has access to the tools they need to meet their homeownership goals.”

Seventeen Habitat for Humanity affiliates met with their Legislators to discuss the challenges and opportunities that have been brought about or made worse due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They also celebrated the efforts of local volunteers and homeowner partners who have dedicated their time to supporting Habitat for Humanity during this particularly challenging time.
