Northern Michigan Habitat Affiliates Merge to Expand Housing Impact
MICHIGAN – Habitat for Humanity of Michigan congratulates two of our affiliate partners on their recent merger. Northwest Michigan Habitat for Humanity and Cheboygan County Habitat for Humanity have combined operations to create a stronger, more efficient organization serving Emmet, Charlevoix, and Cheboygan counties.
The newly merged Northwest Michigan Habitat for Humanity will be better positioned to address the housing shortage affecting all three counties. By eliminating county boundaries as operational barriers, the organization can more effectively steward resources and identify large tracts of affordable land for housing development.
“This merger represents exactly the kind of innovative thinking we love to see from our affiliates,” said Don Wilkinson, President and CEO at Habitat for Humanity of Michigan. “By working across traditional boundaries, they’re finding new ways to serve more families in need of safe, affordable housing.”
The merger has already proven successful in increasing building capacity. The organization has grown from completing 2-3 homes per year to being on pace for 12-15 homes annually, thanks in part to their innovative Meadowlands community project featuring high-quality modular homes.
Additional benefits of the merger include operational efficiencies that direct more resources toward home building, expanded service areas for their two ReStore locations, and reduced administrative duplication.
Habitat for Humanity of Michigan is proud to support affiliates like Northwest Michigan Habitat for Humanity as they find creative solutions to serve more families throughout Michigan.
